ONLINE: Printing WITHOUT a Press with Andrew Huot

You don’t need heavy equipment or a big press to make prints for an edition or exchange.

Join Andrew as he demonstrates simple and repeatable techniques to create a matching edition of prints.

Then we’ll get our hands dirty trying out trace monotypes, pochoir, stamping, and more.

No printing press, no problem!

Andrew will be organizing a Valentine’s Day print exchange and this is a great way to get ideas!

Andrew Huot is a book artist, bookbinder, printer, and conservator in Scarborough, ON, where he operates Big River Bindery, a studio for bookmaking, letterpress printing, and book conservation. He holds a Masters in Book Arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and a BS in Printmaking from Portland State University.

His artists’ books use photographs, linoleum cuts, and text to share the humorous side of everyday life around us. His artists’ books are in collections across the country, from the Art Institute of Chicago to Yale University. Andrew teaches online and in his own studio, taught at the University of Illinois School of Information Science and workshops across the US and in Canada at CBBAG, the John C Campbell Folk School, Book Arts LA, the International Preservation Studies Center, and the Guild of Book Workers, among others. Course fee: $65 members / $125 non-members

This is a live workshop, but it will be recorded, and links will be made available for the registrants to view until available until Feb 19, 2026.

POCHOIR:

• Children’s bristle brushes – 2
• Cosmetic sponges
• Simple kids bristle brush
• Stamp Pads
• A variety of different papers

STAMPING:

• New erasers to carve
• Lino carving tools
• Water or Oil Based Inks for printing or stamp pads
• Brayers
• Inking slab

TRACE MONOTYPE:

• Rollers
• Oil Based Ink
• Tracing Paper
• Ball Point Pen
• Brayers for inking
• Inking slab

ALL THREE TECHNIQUES:

• Text or Cover Weight Papers to practice with

Online Workshop Process:

Materials should be prepared in advance of the workshop to the specifications which will allow participants to take the best advantage of the live format. Please review the technical requirements below prior to registration to be sure you can participate. Cancellation policy:

Participant-requested cancellations will be accepted up to 3 days prior to the published cut-off date for registration and will be subject to a 10% cancellation fee (a minimum of $5). After that, the full fee will be forfeited. In the event of the workshop being cancelled by CBBAG, the workshop fee will be fully refunded.
