Learn the basics of European and Nepalese papermaking with a mind to making decorative coverstock and high quality text weight paper for books.  Learn the basics of sheet forming using European style moulds and deckles and traditional fibres such as flax (linen), hemp and cotton.  We will discuss the characteristics of these plants that make them strong, flexible, versatile papers.  Participants will use Nepalese-style deckle boxes to create colourful sheets that are great for coverstock and strong enough to be used as paper covers in non-adhesive bindings. Sizing options and differences will also be discusses and demonstrated.  Leave with a variety of sample papers and a better understand of what handmade paper can offer a book artist.

Paperhouse Studio: Equipped with some cast iron and a whole lot of love, Paperhouse Studio opened in 2013. We are artists rooted in paper and print media, sharing and exploring these versatile mediums with innovative research and experimentation. Paperhouse provides an educational program that encourages the sharing of knowledge at all levels while creating a fun and playful environment to learn in. We encourage an accessible and diverse studio, offering space and expertise for artists to explore new ideas and create work. Paperhouse also developed a volunteer-for-rent program that offers young and emerging artists a space to create their art work. We encourage collaboration by offering printmaking, papermaking, natural dyes, book arts and sculpture under one roof. We are open to the public, welcoming people to come and visit our studio, and explore the world of paper and print. www.paperhousestudio.ca
